i know.. i can share about FD ICs de kenshu! hahaha..

let me begin..
when the ICs arrived, i was busy giving out food and drink that i didnt take foto.. hahhaa.. after breakfast was amazing race. hahah.. the FD graduates is a group and the FD ICs are according to their division.. hahha...

we find our way to one of the clue which is the CANDY EMPIRE!

after which, we continue searching for the rest of the ans to the clue. when we come to the departure section, we found our 2nd clue. THE CEILING!

and we continue to level 3 and 4, kaiyang found our 3rd ans to the clue.. which is THE COFFEE BEAN LIGHTS!

we continue searching for a shop which we noes the ans to the clue which is THE BODY SHOP!

and we walked and walked then i found the 5th ans! which is a shop! HARRY'S!

and we continue to find our last clue. which states others on it.. and randomly, i thought it was the rubbish bin and BINGO! is the RUBBISH BIN!

so knowing we are the first, we hurry proceed to get our bonus clue.. and so....

unfortunately, im onli able to post one cause i promise the other lady to delete her foto.. =D

hmm.. still have somemore fotos but is not with me! hahaha.. shall get the fotos then update her too k.. the fotos are cute cause they have the 3 funny faces from every group. =D

There's a Women division, Winnie who is one of SSA Sunshine Auntie would like to have our NDP 2008 costumes including the Boots.

Still united!

Personally I am gratified to know that A2 of NDP 2007 is still united after a year! Much has happened in a year, either we have graduated from Future Division into Student Division, went for further studies etc to go on to the next stage of life, but we have not forgotten our friendship!

Thanks to Krystal, Zaw and many others who put in much efforts to gather us together again. Looking through the list of names I tried to recall those memorable moments we had last year and felt the urge to offer prayers for your happiness.

To the A2s who are participating in NDP 2008, you're simply marvellous! On the Preview show, I witnessed for myself the sharp, swift moments of your formations, as if every step was filled with courage, confidence and determination. Considering that it was more difficult this year and you've endured the rain in NE3, I believe all of you have grown stronger!

And I'm happy to see many of you in NDP 08 again, though playing a different role this time. The success of the NDP is not only the participants and trainers, but many others who have worked quietly behind the scene such as the Young Lion, Byakuren, Medical Group, photographers etc, even cleaners or participants from other organisations.

After the Tokyo Culture Festival in 1967, while the youth leaders were bathing in its great success, Sensei asked one of the leader, "Did you make an effort to express your gratitude to the support staff who cleaned up?" and his reply was negative. Then Sensei became stern, "While you were all busy patting yourselves on the back for your great success, I was giving my all to encouraging those members working hard to clean up the stadium grounds and directing traffic. The cultural festival was a success precisely because of their behind-their-scences efforts."

So let's thank those who have supported you as participants (excluding me haha) and make their day! This is also part of the Singapore Spirit isn't it?

After the NDP comes CFG and more challenges in life, Sensei had this to say, "The Tokyo Culture Festival is over and done with now. If you become drunk on your past achivements, all that awaits you is defeat. It's vital that you keep your guard up even after a victory and continue to move forward without pause. If you forget this spirit, you will grow arrogant and careless and everything will fall apart."

Continue to advance each day, for after the NDP is not really the end yet!

A2 chalet II - 16-18 Nov 07

After months of anticipation, we finally got to see one another again in our A2 chalet! All thanks for the vision and wisdom of Clement to book the chalet in advance! Haha..and guess what..18 Nov is Soka Gakkai's founding day! (Why didn't we celebrate this huh?)

Quite a number of us were having a busy week to the fact that we rushed in between work, kosen-rufu activities and the chalet. Zaw was having his exam. And for students who've finally crossed the O-level hurdle, congratulations! The chalet came just right on time!

This time, we had a more spacious BBQ pit where we could sit and chat, and the food get cooked faster due to better ventilation! As usual there were the adult and student gang, but that doesn't mean we don't mix around with one another. Most of the adult gang members smoke and so they ranted (or encouraged one another) over Asahi beers in a corner to protect the younger ones from second hand smoke! Adeline was getting bored as she wanted to test her innovative forfeits for True or Dare! Lestor was as usual exhibiting his queer expressionism as he applied butter to the food and fanned the fire, simply like a big chef on TV. And oh, how can we forget about Benjamin, who cooked the food with highly precised dance movements!

For those who didn't attend the Mon's daimokukai, please take note of the followings:

1. Costume
- Remember to bring FULL SET OF COSTUME! Everything must be there. We will not be allowed to enter the stage if even one single part is missing! To ensure this, we must pack our bags tonight!

2. Makeup
- Guys and gals must put on foundation, and gals have to put on light pink lipstick (No other colors allowed!) and preferably a light blusher. It is advisable to clean our face thoroughly with facial wash before using foundation, or else oil + dirt + foundation = pimples! :p For guys, I can help you with the foundation part.

3. Hairdo
- Guys must have their hair properly gelled (Those who need hairspray can come look for me). Gals with long hair must tied it up into a bun, preferably covered with a black hair net. Also gals with long front fringes must pin them and hide them nicely into/behind the headgear, do not let it overlap the headgear or cover the eyes.

4. Attire
- Wear only white singlets for guys or camisoles for gals. No other colors allowed! Wear long white socks, no ankle socks and color socks allowed!

Let's get everything ready and NDP 2007 Marine Bay, HERE WE COME! :D

物顺人和、玉龙腾飞

I'd like to briefly summarize what we've learnt during last Sat's daimoku session at HQ before rehearsal, for those who were unable to join us or came late.

The height of the session was a screening of a video brought back from Yunnan, China by our General Director Mr Ong. It was about a large scale public performance by a minority race called Naxi (纳西) in Lijiang （丽江） province，Yunnan，with the theme “物顺人和、玉龙腾飞” (With the Yulong Mountain watching over like a rising dragon, there is harmony between human and environment). The people speak Naxi language which consists of two dialects - East and West. Of these, the most interesting is the Eastern dialect known as Dongba wen (东巴文）. The Dongba written language is one of the very rare ancient hieroglyphs (like ancient Eygptian hieroglyph, where words are constructed solely from individual pictorial drawings instead of character) in existence today. So we can see from here that Naxi people has a rich history and has inherited an immense cultural heritage known as Naxi wen hua (纳西文化). This deep cultural heritage also includes their religious belief that "every entity possesses a spirit and it never extinguishes" (万物有灵，灵魂不灭). This is in turn expressed in ceremonial dances portraying the relentless battles of gods with devils, humans and nature with evil forces in the Naxi society.

Until a Chinese production company came to recruit Naxi people from every corner in Lijiang to put together a large scale performance to make known to public Naxi's rich culture heritage, the ordinary Naxi people were living a hand to mouth existence, day by day and year after year. They were misfits in today's technologically advanced societies, their religious belief probably condemned by people as mysterious and cult-like, or their invaluable cultural lineage long forgotten. Due to these circumstances, it is now very rare for the Naxi people to throw their lives into powerful dances that can shake the earth. But now they know they have a rare chance, and they are going to treasure it.

The big day came at last, in the backdrop of the majestic of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (Yulong Mountain, 玉龙雪山), the Naxi dancers aligned themselves in impeccably straight rows with musical instruments, sometimes in a large concentric circle, and sometimes on horses on overlapping slopes. There they threw their entire lives into singing and dancing in complete synchronization, as if there was no tomorrow. Their dance may be crude and simple, their singing may be incomprehensible, but the kind of sincerity and explosive energy that they emancipated from deep within left the audiences awestruck and moved to tears. In that instant, the Naxi dancers became one with nature, their dance is the dance of the majestic jade dragon rising into the heavens.

Now, it is our time. Tomorrow, 9 Aug. We're exactly like these Naxi dancers. This NDP brought us together because we have a mission to fulfill, not only for our country or for SSA, for SGI, but also for ourselves. It is the time to show to others what ordinary people like us can do. Our Vice General Director said that we represent the what the future Singaporean society is going to be like. Indeed we are like the "forefathers" who came to Singapore to make a living in our 'River of Dreams', and who made Singapore what it is today.

Let's do a very good gongyo and daimoku tonight and we tell these to the Gohonzon. We will win together! My battle begins earlier as I would have to leave for Gajokai duty at 6.30pm, but we will see one another soon! JIAYOU!

Some improvements

Over the last few days, I was trying to make full use of time to complete as many tasks on hand as I could so that I can dance and celebrate together with all of you on 9 Aug without any worries. So far, I've completed a job application at the Immigration & Customs (which required me to write a less than 200 words short essay :x). Planning for the coming Aug Family Day discussion meeting has been completed, and tentatively 2 of my friends are interested to attend. And I am going to submit two more job applications before NDP. Then I will countdown to 9 Aug in TSC doing my Gajokai duty with my partner, and I think we would have a good dialogue. Then, I will go HQ at 10am on 9 Aug feeling very excited! lol...

I've also improved on the blogskin design, which I still don't really know how I managed to do that, seriously! It seemed to me that everything fitted in nicely and somehow in rhythm with the universe? But yes, it took me some time, about 3 hours. In the design, there are 50 stars in total, representing all of us, beautiful and brilliant. It's not professional but it just looks great!

Ha I managed to give our blog a facelift, and to tell you the truth, I like it very much and I truly enjoyed the process! So now you can see it's very NDP haha! The wordings are gone but I will put them back asap. I've also uploaded with the 'cradle' and the finale songs.

In fact, this is my first time that I sat down seriously to 'design' a blog, and I had to read about html and css codes (I'm not a computer science student), but hey I did manage to do it. But I think all of you in one way or another deserve credits for making it a wonderful blog that we see today.

Enjoy and let's make it happen AGAIN on Sat! :D

Just discovered that the blogskin author "lionheart" stole the artwork from the original artist "drawcaliber" :( Very unglam and kiddy. So I removed his credit, because he do not deserve it. This morning, I tried to match the template colors to NDP theme colors but as you can see it is a little out of alignment and four different NDP colors and the word 'PosibiCity' appeared washed-out. This is a problem with jpg image, because it is a compressed format, some color data are lost when you overwrite and save the image. I'll leave as it is for the moment and will get help from my tuition student, who is a Photoshop expert! :D

Wow it was amazing that we hit 49 for tonight's preview! Congratulations everyone!! Though a few didn't join us at HQ, you still gladly made it in time to the show village for all the fun. Yes I know Krystal was feeling tired. However the spirit to come together as a team was really encouraging! Definitely we cannot do without one another, like what the protagonist of the show (I think he is called 'SING'...what a strange name?!) proclaimed, "We are million hearts, pulsing with one beat." We are 50 people but only one A2. And we only have TWO more chances to prove to ourselves! So let's keep to our promises okie?

Just edited/fine tuned some of the template codes including font size (suspect the author just post for people to download without cleaning up the messy codes :( ). Next step is to improve the color to match it to NDP theme, which I'm still experimenting.

Just watched the making of NDP 2007 tonight. The seamless collaboration behind the stage between governmental and commercial organizations and their ingenuity to address a difficult challenge under a tight timeline really amazed me. Marina Bay will soon become a crossroad that connects business, entertainment, arts and culture imbued with rich heritage and youthful vibrancy. From a simple question, "Why not Marina Bay?" to the magnitude of what we are seeing today, could somewhat likened to the power of 'human revolution'? (Maybe the NDP comm got inspired by SSA? lol)

I loved and enjoyed every single moment tonight (as well as all past trainings and performances). It was a mixture of feelings too difficult to describe. And suddenly I felt so proud as a Singaporean during the pledge and singing of national anthem, something that I've not felt doing that countless times during my school days! In fact I also cannot help but deeply moved by the the finale music, the section where the lead tenor and soprano sang with encompassing elegance, as if leading (literally) the masses to turn Singapore into a land of smiles, and take on the brave journey and make it real. Then the youth mass choir echoed (or responded to) the call, building up the whole atmosphere to a climax. Following this, the song was filled in with a light-hearted tempo (where we did our finale dance), answering the call by the singers themselves and spreading it wider to more people. At the final climax, the soprano ended off with a towering, victorious pitch and fireworks exploded in the skies in celebration of the realization of our dreams at the end of the brave, new journey.

So I thought the NDP this year is certainly very artistic and it is more like a musical in its own right, don't you think so? =) ghimseng

NDP daimokukai 18 Jul 07

Hello, it's me (ghimseng) again :p

For those who didn't manage to attend the daimokukai, I'll try my best to share with you what was covered during the meeting. Sorry it's going to be quite lengthy :P

For our RD item, we were told that generally we did pretty well last Sat and for this Sat we must proceed to polish up our spirit and showmanship, because these qualities will be captured live at close proximity by Mediacorp cameras! Ming Quan, our NDP head, also told us that the Defence Minister did not have any serious comments on our 3 items, RD, SC and ES, which means that we are up to standard, but this still must be further elevated in subsequent trainings/performances.

We also had one WD participant, Mdm Yip to share with us her testimonial. Mdm Yip took part in 2005 and this year's NDP. In 2005, her son suffered a serious fall accident which severely damaged his eyes and much of the nervous system that he was unable to see clearly and stand up on his feet. During the stay at SGH, the doctors admitted that they had not seen such a case and thus did not know what to do. Exhausted of all means, Mdm Yip fell back to Gohonzon to save her son. By then she was in the midst of NDP trainings, and she had to traverse back and forth from work, home, hospital and NDP trainings. But she kept chanting to Gohonzon with the determination that her son would be able to stand up before the actual NDP. True enough, her son was able to stand up!

This year Mdm Yip took part again in NDP to repay her gratitude to Gohonzon. However difficulties came at the same time to confront her. In May, she suddenly felt tired and giddy easily. But she continued to be strong in her faith and this time, she made a determination to help her son recover his vision. With her continuous effort, her son's vision recovered at a fast rate and her constitution has also improved a great deal. Lastly she encouraged us to keep our faith strong and never to give up in the face of difficulties, and we'll definitely emerge victorious.

Last but not least, Mr Chan shared with us words of encouragement. He reminded us that it is a wrong attitude to think that since we have been receiving many benefits from Gohonzon, we can be complacent and presume that eventually everything will turn out fine somehow just because we chant. That is why we must also be earnest in every endeavour. He then proceeded to share an episode form NHR (Vol 19 Chapter 3, installments 19-25) about the meaning of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo. In the episode, Sensei was visiting the United States. Many US members took faith in Nichiren's Buddhism because they were told they could receive benefits from practising. However they did not quite understand why chanting produced benefits or what the meaning of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo was. Sensei said that the mark of a true leader is to understand exactly the doubts the members were having and to response to them directly.

After a vibrant Gongyo at the new San Diego Community Center, Sensei took a microphone and explained to the members the significance of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo in accessible terms, "There are many different laws and principles operating in the natural world. When we properly recognize and conduct our lives in tune with them, we can create value. For example, hydroelectric power harnesses the energy of flowing water, making use of the law of gravity. Simply put, Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is the fundamental law of the universe, the ultimate force that moves everything. The Daishonin expressed this in the form of a mandala called the Gohonzon, or object of devotion. When we chant to the Gohonzon, our lives fall in rhythm with the fundamental law of the universe, enabling us to manifest tremendous life-force and putting us on a sure course to happiness."

This guidance, Mr Chan explained, tells us that the benefits we received from Gohonzon in fact come from within our lives. When we chant to the Gohonzon, we are not praying to an external entity or god to give us what we want. Rather it is to tune our lives to the law of the universe so that we transform them to the path of happiness.

He also reported that we had a very successful celebration of SSA's 40th anniversary at Indoor Stadium on 7 Jul, and many guests who came talking to him praised the magnificent performances and their high-spirited participants. That was when he noticed that many gave similar comments such as the participants were performing in great joy and shining, fiery eyes (though not Buddha's eyes!) as if they were thoroughly enjoying it. This kind of spirit, as many observed, has all along been evident in all past SSA NDP performances! A guest from a Muslim organization asked if there was any secret behind such a wonderful show. In respect of his faith, Mr Chan did not tell him about faith and Gohonzon, but made use of Sensei's guidance that it probably stems from the fact that we treasure and cherish every life, and we nurture and encourage the youths to pursue their dreams. Even if they may think they are incapable, we keep on encouraging them till they make it one day. That is our belief. In SSA, we are fortunate to have many platforms for this purpose and have achieved great success as compared to other faith organizations. Therefore we must fully make use of them, and in the process, not only to overcome our own difficulties, but also to contribute our parts for society. We don't just talk about values, but we put them into people and help actualize them. This is why we are so admired by other organizations.

Mr Chan next relayed President Nathan's wishes for SSA which he conveyed during the dialogue with youth leaders during his recent courtesy visit. The President had fully recognized SSA's commitment to NDP and want us to continue with this spirit and belief beyond the NDP, spreading them into the corners of society because they are still many people who need our help.

Lastly, what we have learnt about the meaning of faith, happiness, volunteering to help one another, is not because we are participating in NDP, but because the power of daimoku has manifested in our lives, enabling us to confront any difficulties facing us with confidence. Let us keep this spirit close to heart even when NDP is long over. We may miss one another after that, but it is this Soka spirit that will continue to bind us together!

Hello dear all Superstars! Wow what a nice blog we have! And we got a chatbox, cool! I like the frontpage logo design, it's so hype and vibrant! Before I proceed may I suggest instead of calling the blog "Beautiful Disaster", why not call it "Beautiful PosibiCity"? lol Not just because it is in tune with the NDP theme, but it will depict the unlimited posibilities of our lives, our friendship and dreams - we simply don't know how far they can carry us!

This year is my second part taking part in NDP, after a hiatus of 6 years. During which I was faced with many personal difficulties (though there is still some now) and I was not allowed to participate since I was in the Cultural Group - YMD Brass Band (now Courageous Musicians). I had never truly understand the real significance of NDP until I met all of you, which I initially hesitated to go for the audition because I could foresee a generation gap if I can't mix around well with Secondary and JC/Poly students. But it all changed during the first training (in fact is 4th, as I missed first 3 in a row and the admin removed my name from the list). What I saw is a group of energetic, pure-hearted YWDs and caring YMD seniors and trainers. From that moment I determined that as a senior to most of you, I have the responsibility to be an exemplary to the juniors and also to gain trust from everyone. How surprising a change of determination can work wonders! I began to look forward to each training, even if it costs me nearly $2 per trip from Eunos to Kranji Camp, I gladly did so without hesitation. It turned out to be great since I can read or listen to favorite mp3s during the long journey. I remembered after a training at Kranji Camp, I had to meet up my YWD to plan about our discussion meeting in MacDonalds, and yet I was still fresh!

This NDP is also an answer to my prayer from Gohonzon. I prayed for a chance to take part in a large-scale cultural item where I can do actual dancing (no more marching band or mass display!), and it really comes true! This is why I feel so special about the NDP and I could forsee many new victories and possibilities that are about to surface! :))

A Beautiful Swan

“A swan on a lake appears graceful and elegant because its legs underneath the water, are paddling hard.”

“River of Dreams” is just like a beautiful swan only if all its 600 participants put up their best performances. We might seem insignificant compared to the other participants but any minor mistakes each of us makes will ruin the beautiful image a swan portrays.

Notwithstanding any differences amongst us, let us all encourage each other; highlight any mistakes that our fellow NDP comrades make and finally, assist them to perfect their dance steps.

If the whole of A2 and all other NDP participants have the same “Ichinen”, we will definitely have “Itai Doshin” (Many bodies one mind) and achieve great victory not just in NDP but also in our lives. So let us all march towards this victory and allow our fellow Singaporeans enjoy the Best NDP performance ever!

How come I don’t see my face in the blog?? So sad…
